Some students think that "I" is the first letter of input, indicating that the switch is closed and the power is input, and "O" is the first letter of off, indicating that the switch is off. But is this really true? The answer is: almost half right. These two symbols are actually from the IEC60417 standard, which is a graphic symbol specification developed by the International Electrotechnical Commission, which is the world's first international standard for regulating graphic symbols for electronic products.

 

 

In the IEC60417 standard, the graphical symbol corresponding to the two states of the power supply on and off is standardized, that is, the symbol "I" and "O", respectively indicating the connection or disconnection with the main power supply, and can also be used to indicate the position of the main power switch. It should be noted that these two are simply graphic symbols, not English letters.
